Applying for a master with us

The application deadline for our master’s programme is fast approaching! All relevant documents has to be uploaded at www.universityadmissions.se by January 15th and I always get a lot of questions around the entire thing, and most of the information can be found at our homepage, but to sum up some of the most common questions I thought I should take the opportunity to answer them here.

What specialisation within the department should I apply for? You should apply for the one that closest resemble the title of your bachelor degree. If your BA is in ”classical archaeology” you should apply for ”classical archaeology and ancient history”, and if it says ”archaeology and anthropology” you apply for ”archaeology” with us. According to our rules you have to build your master on top of your bachelor and that’s why you cant change specialisation between degrees.

What kind of documentation should I upload? You should provide a transcript into English or Swedish of your previous grades and your bachelor (Danish and Norwegian are also accepted). If your bachelor isn’t completed yet you need to provide documentation that supports your ability to recieve one before the start of the programme, like a certificate of enrollment or similar. There’s no need for a CV apart from a transcript of your academic merits. Apart from that you need to submit a Statement of Purpose.

Statement of Purpose? How? What? Where? A statment of purpose is a letter to us of no more than 300 words where you give the reason for choosing to apply with our programme, what you think it can give you and what you bring to the table. It’s also where you describe your research interests. Check out the description at https://www.ark.lu.se/en/education/masters-programme/ but as you can see there is no template for this letter, rather it’s your own words that matter. You upload it together with the other documentation at www.universityadmissions.se.

Do I need to choose all the courses at once? No, you will apply for one semester at a time once you are accepted into the programme. You are guaranteed your place at the course of your choice, and all exept the work placement are taught in English.

I’ve read all the information at www.ark.lu.se and www.universityadmissions.se but I have so many more questions, where do I turn? For anything that’s not financial you can start out with contacting me at agneta.ormes@ark.lu.se and I’ll figure out who you need to contact if it’s not something I can answer. I have several time slots a week for zoom meetings that you can book too, and sometimes that’s the easisest way to get a lot of questions asked at once. So don’t hesitate to write to me and we take it from there!
